O2 Depletion (Odel)

Most analyzers on the market rely on a Vol% Combustibles scale when operating in reducing atmospheres. But here’s the problem:Combustibles scales are not directly measured—they’re derived from curve fits of test data and calibration standards. This means accuracy depends on assumptions of components and levels, not physics. The result?

measurement gap where neither Vol% O₂ nor Vol% Combustibles provides a reliable signal.

Zirtek’s Odel Scale closes that gap.

Directly computed from the Nernst Equation—not a curve fit/calibration standard

Provides a true measure of oxygen depletion in reducing conditions

Eliminates the uncertainty of “approximate” combustibles readings

Available exclusively on Zirtek’s ZKA Series AnalyzersWith Odel, you don’t just monitor—you measure with confidence. That’s the difference between guessing at combustibles and knowing your process chemistry.

Fuel Rich (reducing) atmospheres can be monitored directly using a Zirconium Oxide cell placed in the radiant zone of the combustion process. While this is typically thought of as the absence of oxygen, inferring that O2 is non-existent, the opposite is actually true. Oxygen molecules exist and can be detected well into the smoke.
